Good point!  There is a Tiger Direct about a mile from work.

Get yourself the 8350 not the 8150.... a couple of dollars more, but you'll over clock that shit to 5 ghz without any question...

Re: New hardware on the way...

Looks like the 8150 comes with "heatsink and fan". Like I said, tiger direct is a couple of mins from work if it is a PoS.

Wish I had know about the OC on the 8350. I'll have to see what I can do with the 8150.  Didn't research this upgrade as much as I usually do.

By the way, the SS was only $280.  May still be available.

Re: New hardware on the way...

I went back and looked at the comparisons I did a couple of weeks ago and remembered that I was looking at the increased performance versus cost and thought that the 8350 was the way to go.  Worst case, I run the 8150 until the fall and then upgrade after the price on the 8350 drops.  Also, I didn't order the one with the liquid cooling kit, so it looks like I will be making a trip to Tiger Direct.  At least I got a 500GB SSD for less than $300.

Lesson learned: Don't try to throw together a config regardless of how well you think you remember it when you are trying to get ready for work and haven't had your coffee.

Looking at video cards (may want to upgrade that next), the GTX 480 appears to perform well, but doesn't have the memory of the 7850 or 7950.  The 7950 appears to give ~25% performance increase for almost 2x the price.  Oh well, I'll have to check the prices in a month or so.

Intel had it before AMD did... iirc, they had it before the Core i series came out (when the q series was big)

Re: New hardware on the way...

Finished putting it together this past Saturday.  Had it built on Friday and played a little BF3 with it.  Then I decided to use my dual 2TB drives for the User folders, so I rebuilt it on Saturday morning (more space plus I have them mirrored).  It has been running like a champ since.
