New Video Card

With the upcoming release of BF4, which I assume we will all be playing, I am looking to upgrade my video card.  My motherboard only has PCIE-2.0 slots.  Based on what I have read, a PCIE-3.0 card will work but the performance may be less than advertised.  I am not married to NVidia or AMD, but my past few cards have been NVidia and I have been pleased.

Current Card - GeForce GTX 275

Looking to spend $250 or less, which makes cards with these chips possible.

GTX 760 (ex. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130934)

GTX 660 Ti (ex. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814121767)

Radeon 7950 (ex. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814127667)

I'm also open to dual lower end cards like 2x Radeon 7790s or 2x GTX 560s if it gives me better performance and stays in my price range.

Re: New Video Card

Your links dont work.

If your going to spend about $250 you really only have 2 choices.
A nvidia 760
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814130935

or ati/amd 7950
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a … 6814125414

nvidia 760 is about 10% faster then the 660, as for going to something like pair of 560 2gb card if you can get both for 250 then that would give you more performance for the $.

heres bf3 bench between 7950 and 760
http://www.legitreviews.com/amd-radeon- … 760_2227/3

BTW what mobo and cpu do you run?

I am mentally challenging you.....so consider yourself mentally challenged.

Re: New Video Card

Don't know what is up with the links, I thought I knew how to copy/paste.

Upgraded to the following back in March:

AMD FX-8150 Zambezi 3.6GHz Socket AM3+ 125W Eight-Core Desktop Processor FD8150FRGUBOX

GIGABYTE GA-990FXA-UD3 AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard

No OC currently.

Thanks for the info!  Going to keep an eye on the prices and probably pick one up with my mid-Sept paycheck.

Re: New Video Card

I would def go with the 760, but i'm biased towards nvidia.  The 760 would be better than the 660 though, since it's a newer generation.

Re: New Video Card

How much difference does memory make??  I'm debating between the following:

Nvidia 760 - 4GB for ~300
Nvidia 760 - 2GB for ~250

Although it would be a stretch, I have thought about Nvidia 770 - 2GB for ~400.

Thoughts?

Story time....    sit down and let uncle venom drop a little revisionist history in your brain holes....

1st it was staying on the bleeding edge of PC gaming

then it was keeping up with the jones's

followed by maintaining a level playing field in competition

after the pr0 stuff...  never again did words like, casual gaming and upgrading, ever seem to fit in the same sentence

factor all that in with the reality of new games

rumor---->anticipation------>hype----->preorder----->'beta'----->release----->new is new---->new is fun---->new is ok---->new wears off---->realization------>resentment----------->GAME OVER----->insert $69.99+upgrade to continue............      rinse---->repeat

in other news "uncle venom" as he's more commonly know was arrested and brought up on charges of soliciting male escorts. the assailant was found carrying computer parts and software dating back to 2002. in a statement delivered today by his family "it was the butter and the sad fact that his computer advice was piss poor at best" end quote....this reporter is appalled to find out that he may have been part of a larger ring of people still playing modern warfare! lol

Re: New Video Card

Put a solid competition league/ladder backed game out there with server side configuration availability.  Allow 3rd party development for league mandated anti cheats,  match modes, round based  play, server hosting, oh and MAKE SURE THE WHOLE POINT OF THE GAME WORKS.
shot registration, movement - sans the bullshit perks  all they do is help  make the game more enjoyable to those lacking skill.

Less shiny for the ADHD retards.  Something consistent where practice leads to perfection, and that perfection is not constantly pwnd by randomness and glitches.

Release that game then we can talk about droppin handfulls of C-notes.

I will continue to waste money on hookers like your moms.  How do you think she can afford those BF4 upgrades n e ways?   Ill tell you like she tells me, "Pussy dont grow on trees."

Re: New Video Card

If you haven't bought one yet, I bought a gigabyte 7870 2gb for $240 a few months ago and so far works pretty good. I would have to look at the specs but I know its over twice as fast as the 1 gb 560 I had.

What'd you do with your old 560?

Re: New Video Card

Does you daughter play Battlefield, and how does she compare to Columbus?

As for the video cards, I'm currently leaning towards the 4GB 760, with the plan to add a second 760 by the end of the year.  Supposedly the dual setup beats a Titan.

Re: New Video Card

I just added a second monitor (I no longer work from home, so I scavenged it), although I am only gaming on one and use the second to keep an eye on Vent, CPU/GPU temps, etc.  I may buy a third or pick up a pair of the same make/model for consistency.  The extra $50 per card is more future-proofing than current need.

It is eating the heck out of my bourbon budget though... I'm having to drink a bunch of rum left over from the summer.
